A Brief Look At The Body Chakras
The term Body Chakras refer to the seven energy spheres or life force centers located in the subtle body within each man. Energy receiving and transmitting centers, these chakras are located in a vertical line from the crown of the head till the base of the spine and are scientifically stated to be linked to the major nerve ganglia originating from the spinal cord. The body chakras reflects the level of consciousness, body functions, developmental stage or the archetypal elements of the person and talks about him in his entirety, that is, his physicals, mental, psychological and spiritual condition and wellbeing.
The first of the body chakras is that of the Root or Muladhar located at the base of the spine which stands for group identity. The strength of this chakra can be felt when you sing the national anthem for instance. Physically linked to the immunity system, bones, rectum and feet, any blockage in the energy flow results in problems thereof along with viral and epidemics.
After the power of your group identity, the Swadhisthana or Sacral body chakra is all about the power of relationships and the power of choice. This duality results in the energies to tell us to make a choice and thereafter gives the lesson that you can not have absolute control. The common fears in this case are fear of loosing control on other people, relationships, money, authority, sex, power, addiction, etc Known as the sacral body chakra, physically it is linked to reproduction and can give rise to ovarian cancer, arthritis, lower back pain, etc. if not directed properly.
The Manipura is the third of the body chakras from the base and stands for personal power where the concept of self and individuality develops since the time of puberty. While the advantages of this body chakra are self esteem, self respect, ambition and the like, there are disadvantages such as fear of rejection, criticism, obsession with physical appearance, etc. Proper channelizing of energies here will result in an empowered and successful personality.
The center power house of all the body chakras and the human energy system is the Anahata or the heart chakra which stands for emotional power and is the meeting point of body and spirit. While the primary fears here are those of loneliness, commitment, emotional weakness, betrayal, etc, the strengths lie in unconditional love, forgiveness, trust, inspiration and hope. The negative energy of this chakra has the power to not only emotionally wound but create serious ill health issues and thus the act of forgiveness is not only a spiritual act but a major physical healing act as well.
The fifth of the body chakras is that of the throat or Vishuddha Chakra which is the meeting point of the head and the heart with one usually playing a more dominant role over the other. The fears here are those of loosing control over one’s life, fear about god’s will while the positive is the development of faith.
One of the most spiritually important body chakras is that of the Ajna or the Third Eye Chakra which is located between the eyebrows of man. Opening of this chakra with the help of meditation helps one to get detached from all the subjective perceptions all around and gives the power to separate the truth from illusion.
The last and the final of the body chakras resting at the crown of a person’s head is that of the Sahasrara Chakra. It is the final and the topmost chakra of spiritual enlightenment which houses all positive energies. The positives of this chakra lie in the aspects of devotion, mystical connection, psychic powers and inspiration, and through advanced meditation, the ultimate truth about the universe is known. A person’s true potential is realized and the immortality and omnipotence of the soul is experienced.
